The Division of Apprenticeship Standards requires non-certified detailed earning information form from the Social Security Administration (no substitution). This is to verify employment as an electrician. Certification Forms

There are two methods to acquire this form:
1. Mail in application (this will take several weeks)
2. Go to your local Social Security Office with the application for the form this will take the less amount of time.
In order to qualify to take the state certification exam in any classification you will need to have the application completed, non-certified detailed earning information form from the Social Security Administration, and a check for $175.00.
As of February, there are a large number of applications being process, and it will take approximately four-weeks to receive an approval to take the examination.
32 HOUR OF CONTINUOUS EDUCATION TO RENEW CERTIFICATION
Time to process renewal of certification has extended as well. Previously the Division of Apprenticeship Standards will not accept renewal application prior to 90 days before expiration. Now they have extended to 6 months so you can send in your renewal within 6 months of your expiration. As of January 4, 2012, there were 16,989 that have lost their certification either by not renewing on time or left the trade. There were 53,102 certified in their respective classification and now there are approximately 36,113 certified to perform all electrical work throughout the state of California.
NUMBER OF PASSING IN JANUARY 2012
January 2012, 633 have taken their respective certification, and only 286 passed. This is a 54% failure rate. At the rate of passing it will take over 16 years before every applicant to become certified.
