California is Losing 600 Certified Workers Per Month

Losing State Certification

California is losing certified electricians in all categories at a rate of over 600 per month. The reason is they are not completing their required 32 hours of continuous education, and renewing their certification on time. In order to regain their certification, they must pay an additional $100.00 and take the state certification examination over. During the time they are not certified they are no qualified to work for a contractor.

Union electricians that have lost their certification can’t be dispatch to contractors, while other electrician that have lost their certification will jeopardized the contractor by not comply with Labor Law 3099.

State Certification Failures to Date:

As of June 4, 2012, there are over 34,440 that have failed their respective state examination. That is 1,667 more failure since January 4, 2012.

Since January 4, 2012 there have been 1,313 that have passed their respective certification.

New Building Codes

The state of California has adopted new building codes addressing energy. These codes will affect the electricians installing new products and lighting controls. Considering the fact that the majority of the electricians which have not passed their certification.  How well will their performance in installing intelligent controls?

The existing workforce must come up to a basic standard which they have not done.

A Need for a New Workforce

There is an opportunity for anyone that wants to become an electrician, and have the desire to learn. If you start now you can become certified in four-years or less it depends on your work experience.

What about the existing workforce?
